Bristol Hiker Discovers Abandoned Bear Cub
The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife said they were notified by a hiker who said she was walking in the woods when she discovered a bear cub alone and crying. The hiker contacted Fish and Wildlife, who dispatched two wardens to locate the animal.

Breaking Barriers: Keeseville's Devann Murphy does NYC Marathon on Crutches
On Sunday, the northern New York native will join more than 50,000 people at the starting line, competing in the 2023 New York City Marathon. But she will do so without her handcycle this time, using crutches instead.
“Why not?” she said. “It will be hard, and it will hurt. But because I can…I have so many friends that I race with that can not stand, can not walk. And that’s something that I still have the ability to do. ”

Heroic Trooper Archer Wins National Award
Trooper Michelle Archer was chosen as December’s Officer of the Month by The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, an organization that tells the story of American law enforcement and honors those who died in the line of duty.

5 Year Old's Pot Holders raise $100 to Benefit Art from the Heart
Lydia Littwin’s 5-year-old son, Ari, received a potholder loom as a gift last year, and he put it to good use. Ari and his mom set up a small booth at the Foam Brewers Market and sold $200 worth of potholders. Half of of the proceeds went to Art from the Heart, an organization dedicated to providing art supplies to patients.

Fishing Shanties with Flair This Weekend
The Artful Ice Shanties will be displayed at Retreat Farm (45 Farmhouse Square, Brattleboro, Vermont).
Visitors are welcome from dawn to dusk. Park at Retreat Farm, stop in at the welcome hut near the farmhouse, and then head into the square to see the shanties now until February 24th
