General Contest Rules
ENTRY:
All Hall Communications and BackyardBurlington contests are open to any/all individuals who are State of Vermont or New York residents (12 and older). Only one (1) qualifier or winner per family/household per contest. The decision of BackyardBurlington and/or Hall Communications is final.
Individuals may not participate in any contest on behalf of another individual. Employees and immediate family members of Hall Communications, BackyardBurlington, its advertising agencies/businesses, their affiliates, representatives; other media (including Radio, TV, Cable, Social Medias and Newspapers); and their families or households are ineligible to enter/win any contest(s) staged on Backyardburlington.com. Winners must be 18 or older unless otherwise stated in individual contest rules. A parent or guardian must accompany qualified winners under the age of 18. Both individuals must sign an affidavit/release prior to receipt of the prize. All contestants acknowledge, as a condition of entry, that Hall Communications, BackyardBurlington and those affiliated radio stations, have the right to publicize and/or broadcast his/her videos, photos, name, character, likeness, voice, or all matters incidental herein (including on radio station web/social sites, the BackyardBurlington App, and BackyardBurlington.com.
RULES:
Winners chosen at random among those submitting video or photo to BackyardBurlington within a given calendar month. Winners chosen at random among those registering for affiliated radio stations contests through BackyardBurlington and/or the radio stations themselves. In the case of Hall affiliated radio stations, on-air qualifying parameters, i.e., 9th Caller may exist on a contest by contest basis. Registrations for Hall affiliated radio station contests through BackyardBurlngton.com or the BackyardBurlington APP may be included with those on-air qualifiers in the random drawing for a given prize. All contest statutes and provisions of Vermont and the U.S. Federal Government, including the Federal Communications Commission restrictions, apply to all contests. All contest entries become the property of BackyardBurlington and Hall Communications. Furthermore, BackyardBurlington and/or Hall may withhold any contest material crucial to the completion of a contest. Phone calls made by BackyardBurlington and/or Hall Communications personnel to any individual may be recorded and, after receiving the individual’s permission, broadcast; likewise, individuals contacted in person may be recorded/quoted with their permission. Phone calls made by any individual to BackyardBurlington and/or Hall personnel may be recorded and aired. WINNER’S CONVERSATIONS MAY BE BROADCAST PERIODICALLY ON INDIVIDUAL AFFILIATED RADIO STATIONS. ALL WINNERS AGREE TO GRANT HALL COMMUNICATIONS PERMISSION TO BROADCAST THE CONVERSATION, AND FURTHER TO IDENTIFY THEMSELVES, AND THEIR CITY OF RESIDENCE. Likewise, all winners grant BackyardBurlington and Hall permission to broadcast their videos, photos, name, city of residence, and/or their cash and prize winnings, as part of live and recorded promotional announcements on any individual affiliated radio station, web/social, including BackyardBurlington.com, BackyardBurlington the App, and any and all sites affiliated with Hall Communications, and publicity in other media, including TV, social, digital, and print, including newspaper.
The Federal Communications Commission has rules instructing all radio stations to notify any individual called and recorded that the conversation is being recorded. Hall Communications and its individual affiliated radio stations will do so at the beginning of every outgoing phone conversation. Additions or deletions to these rules and addendum (if any) are subject to the discretion of Hall Communications and may be enacted at any time. Hall Communications their agencies, affiliates, sponsors, or representatives absolve themselves of any liability, financial or otherwise, resultant of any “on” or “off” air contest staged by BackyardBurlington.com, BackyardBurlington the App, WOKO-FM, WIZN-FM, WBTZ-FM, WKOL-FM and WJOY-AM.
PRIZES:
Winners of Cash Prizes and/or prizes valued at $600.00 or more must sign a release, and provide BackyardBurlington and/or Hall Communications with a valid Social Security number prior to the receipt of a prize. Winners are ineligible to compete for ninety days (90) days unless otherwise stated in individual printed contest rules. Any contest winner receiving in excess of $600.00 cash and/or prize value during any calendar year will receive a #1099 form for Federal and State tax declaration of prize. Winners are obligated to pay their taxes on the amount of their winnings. All winners will receive their cash prize from BackyardBurlington and/or Hall Communications within twenty-one (21) days after winning, unless an alternative date is set with the winner. Winners understand and agree that they are responsible for any/all taxes incurred on prizes received valued at $600.00 or more. All prizes, unless otherwise specified, must be picked up within thirty (30) days from the winning day. No prizes will be mailed. In the event a winner chooses not to accept a prize, they forfeit any and all claims to the prize, which can then be awarded to a contest runner-up at the discretion of BackyardBurlington and/or Hall Communications. All unclaimed prizes will be forfeited. BackyardBurlington and Hall Communications are at liberty to give away any unclaimed prize at the end of the thirty (30) day period. All major prizes that will be given away by BackyardBurlington and/or Hall; odds of winning will depend on the number of qualified entries. BackyardBurlington and/or Hall Communications may, due to the unavailability of prizes, substitute another prize of equal value. All other prizes must be claimed in person unless otherwise specified. Proper identification required (valid driver’s license, passport, state I.D., or military I.D.). BackyardBurlington and Hall Communications are not responsible for defective prizes. All prizes are nontransferable and void where prohibited by law. Hall Communications is not responsible if a listener/user is unable to access a contest due to equipment malfunction, busy phone lines or otherwise.
Winners from Vermont must wait two days before picking up their prize at the station business office at 70 Joy Drive, South Burlington, VT during regular business hours Monday-Friday between 8:30 am-4:00 pm.
Winners from New York must wait until the Wednesday after they win to pick up their prize at Perrywinkles Fine Jewelry at 75 Smithfield Boulevard, Plattsburgh, NY during regular business hours.
BackyardBurlington and Hall Communications are not responsible for providing lists of prize winners.
DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVES:
In very unique situations, designated representatives will be allowed to accept prizes. Written authorization from the winner is required. Letter must include representative’s name, I.D., Social Security number, and a photocopy of the WINNER’S driver’s license. BackyardBurlington and/or Hall Communications will determine what constitutes a “unique situation.”

Nondiscrimination paragraphs 49 and 50 of the United States Federal Commissions Report and Order No. 07217 provides that broadcast stations’ advertising contracts will not discriminate on the basis of race or ethnicity, and must contain nondiscrimination clauses. Consistent with this order, BackyardMedia stations do not discriminate in any broadcast advertising contract on the basis of race or ethnicity; and evaluate, negotiate, and complete their broadcast advertising contracts without regard to race or ethnicity.
